Always great to see how our support helps with the Hastings Sierra Leone Friendship Link, amazing progress of the Schools Farm Project that started in 2021. 24 schools were able to buy seeds in order to support their communities and by selling some of their harvest, they will be able to buy more seeds and so the cycle continues.

We are pleased to be supporting the Hastings Sierra Leone Friendship Link again. Inspired by the success of a pilot ‘Seed Challenge’ project last year, we have donated £500 to their 2021 School Farms Project. Last year, just £200 enabled 21 schools in Hastings, Sierra Leone, to buy seeds and grow crops so successfully that they were able to provide for their school communities. They were also able to sell some of the harvest to raise funds and buy more seeds. According to Link Trustee David Lewis who is heading the School Farms Project for 2021: “If we can encourage young people to work hard and see the results of their labours it might inspire them to create a future in horticulture. Creating liveliness is key to giving these children a sustainable career.” The 2021 Project will now build on last year’s success, offering a structured approach to developing self-sustaining farms that can continue to benefit schools and local communities. This year there are 24 schools involved with some of them already having exciting ideas for moving forward. Dain Jensen, owner of Kiley’s Karpets, is a patron of the Link and a long-term supporter and fundraising, “When I heard of the success of the Seeds Challenge and how so little can make such a difference there was no doubt in my mind that this project was something to support and help evolve into something much bigger which can give the children hope for the future.” Richard Homewood, Link Chairman added: “We are extremely grateful for this generous donation from Kiley’s Karpets. It will give the School Farms Project a real boost. We give a huge thank you to Dain and the company for the donation and all their fundraising over the years.” To find out more about the project and other initiatives, visit www.hastingshastings.org.uk

Dain Jensen, Kiley's Karpets MD, is one of the intrepid HY Runners who have set out to run around the world (virtually) to raise £10,000 for St. Michael's Hospice. Like so many charities, the Hospice relies on fundraising from events like the marathon to be able to deliver its vital services. With the Hastings Half Marathon now cancelled for the second consecutive year due to the pandemic, the HY Runners are instead running, jogging or walking 1 to 120 miles a day whilst staying local to cover the 24,901 circumference of the world in 42 days. Follow #HYRunstheWorld to see their route and the destinations they are reaching as they clock up the miles. You can also find out how much they have raised and donate online here at JustGiving.com And, if you pass a runner wearing red in the Hastings area, give them a wave and a clap; chances are they will be one of the amazing HY team. You can also follow the HY Runners on their Facebook page here .

With so much to challenge us currently, it was fantastic to sponsor and be part of the recent HY Runners Awards ceremony. Kiley's Karpets sponsored the club's outdoor, socially distanced presentation at the Ark William Parker track on January 10th. Dain Jensen, MD of Kiley's Karpets, presented medals and trophies to youth runners and adults, including 'Athlete of the Year' and 'Most Improved' for all age categories. The Awards marked the success of HY Runners outstanding first year. Despite the restrictions and complications presented by Covid, the club has raised money for worthy causes via focused challenges, hosted club races, competed in external races and kept runners motivated and supported during lockdown. It is also starting 2021 with a bid to run the world (virtually) to raise money for St. Michael's Hospice given the cancellation of the Hastings Half Marathon once again. HY Runners is led by a committee of dedicated coaches and volunteers and offers a welcoming and inclusive community for all abilities, from walking to jogging and running. For more information, follow @HY_runners, find the club on Facebook, or call 07711 777363 .

Top marks for Kiley's Karpets from Headteacher Emma Savage, "Thank you so much for everything you and your team have done over the last few months in helping to create the most wonderful teaching and learning space." We were only too pleased to supply and fit flooring without charge for Southborough Church of England Primary School's new Discovery Centre and Year 6 classroom recently. Here's to the happy patter of little school shoes for years to come.

We're proud of the feedback and comments we get from our customers and have some great reviews on Google. Gina popped in to see us recently, having used Kiley's Karpets before, and chose a new carpet and booked a fitting. Lovely to see this pop up on Google to join others. Thank you Gina.
